CONFIGURE CAPSMAN VIA LAYER 2

Hi guys… Im get this image when browsing CAPsMAN image in grandpapa google. So… Dont you remember about CAPsMAN? If not… I recommend you to read my article before.
CONFIGURE CAPSMAN VIA LAYER 2

Lets begin… We will study about CAPsMAN… Not playing CAPSMAN.

We will make CAPsMAN’s simple configuration. Here I use 2 RB. One is RB951Ui-2HnD as CAPsMAN. I take internet from USB Modem that connected to it with PPP-out configuration. And the else RB951-2n as CAP. If you have more AP, you can make it became CAP AP so your lab more perfect and you can analize them.
We wanna create SSID Ofiice-Bos to each AP.

There are requirements for running CAPsMAN in your routerboard.
– CAPsMAN v1 : Minimal RouterOS v6.11, level 4 license and installed wireless-fp package.
– CAPsMAN v2 : Minimal RouterOS v6.22rc7, level 4 license and installed wireless-cm2 package.

Different between CAPsMAN v1 and v2:
• CAPsMAN automatic upgrade of all CAP clients (configurable)
• improved CAPCAPsMAN data connection protocol
• added “Name Format” and “Name Prefix” setting for Provision rules
• improved logging entries when client roams between the CAPs
• added L2 Path MTU discovery

Mikrotik give notice that CAPsMAN v1 incompatible with CAPsMAN v2, so you must choose 1. Im use CAPsMAN v2 with installing RouterOS v6.31 and wireless-cm2 package here.

Steps for installing CAPsMAN:
• CAPsMAN configuration for AP that become controller
1. Enable CAPsMAN service
2. Add bridge interface
3. Add CAPsMAN configuration
4. Add Provisioning Rule
5. Configure NAT commonly
6. Configure DHCP for bridge interface was created
• CAP configuration for AP that become remote AP = just enable CAP option

Oke lets go…
1. Enable CAPsMAN service. Open winbox -> CAPsMAN -> Manager -> Check Enabled.
clip_image0032. Add 1 bridge interface and give name “Office”.
If you use many CAP, CAPsMAN’s resources will increase so you must use High-Spec Routerboard for your CAPsMAN.

3. Add CAPsMAN configuration. If you create a configuration, you don’t need to configure your CAP one by one even though you can do it. You just choose your configuration for your CAP in provisioning menu. You can give SSID name, channel, security, etc.

4. Add Provisioning Rule. If Radio MAC is 00:00:00:00:00:00 it means for all CAP but you can make different configuration for CAPs. In Master Configuration, choose your configuration that you was created before.
clip_image0065. Configure NAT commonly so your client can access internet.

Ok… finished to configure CAPsMAN. Now go to CAP and enable CAP feature so it can connect to CAPsMAN. Click
clip_image008
Will show notification that AP CAP “managed by CAPsMAN”.

Set identity used for add identity to CAP. So you can identify easily one CAP to other. Check your wireless and SSID Office-Boss appeared.
